Hello everyone! Today I’m excited to share my favorite bread machine bagel recipe that makes homemade bagels a breeze. They’re perfect for a hearty breakfast or a tasty snack, and I love how versatile they are!

  • Bread machine with a bagel setting or basic dough cycle
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharp knife or dough cutter

Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Method

Step 1:

Add water, yeast, sugar, salt, oil, and bread flour to your bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer.

Step 2: Mix & Rise

Set your machine to the dough cycle and let it mix and knead the dough. Allow the dough to rise in the machine (approximately 1 hour).

Step 3: Shape Bagels

Once the dough is ready, transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Divide into 8 equal pieces, shape each into a ball, and poke a hole through the center to form a bagel shape.

Step 4: Rest

Place shaped bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with a clean towel and let them rest for 15 minutes.

Step 5: Bake Time

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the bagels for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.

Step 6: Total Time:

Approximately 1 hour 45 minutes (including rising and baking).

  • For a chewier texture, boil the bagels in water with a little baking soda for 1-2 minutes before baking.
